30 July 2012 - Time to meet the in-laws

'Tis me again, fresh on the ground in Germany.  We had a quick freshen up in the Lufthansa Arrival Lounge and then it was on the S-Bahn to the centre of Frankfurt.  It has been years since I have been here but it was only a fleeting visit to the centre this time.

We continued our little meander through the centre  looking at the shops and the local Frankfurters (bun free).

Then the big event of the day....time to meet the parents!  Always a little daunting and add to that the language barrier.  I am so very charming that I am always understood (or laughed at) and I did have my semaphore flags with me just in case.  Never know when you need to signal a man overboard!

Stephan's parent live about 20 minutes out of Frankfurt in a lovely leafy green suburb.  The garden was filled with birds, squirrels and butterflies and the gentle sounds of the take off path of Frankfurt Airport.  They have a lovely home and Stephan's brother lives right next door with his wife and two kinder.

We had a delicious traditional lunch of white sausage with sweet mustard and potato salad.  The salad is Stephan's favourite and he showed his appreciation by eating quite a lot of it.  Luckily there was still some left to take back to Zurich.  I was a little concerned about the liquids/gels issue (mayonnaise is a liquid) but there was no problem at security.  Not sure we could have endured the tears over lost salad.  Lunch was followed by a lovely hazelnut cake - yum - and we also took some of that home.  No problem getting nuts on a plane....we have sat next to enough of them!

So now I have met everyone and learnt some more German and practiced my pronunciation.  Still a very long way from making sentences!!  Learning a lot of nouns though and my pointing finger has never been busier.

Then it was back to the airport for a final little flight to Zurich.  It is only a short hop and the meal was again OK but a bit dubious.  It was what looked like herring in mayonnaise and polony on the side.  The Star Chef who had prepared it gave it a much fancier name but I call 'em and I see 'em.

What a great weekend and a lot packed in during that time.  On arrival into Zurich we were met by what I could only describe as pornographic.  There were four grown men blowing their horns...dirty!
